Protecting Our Kids in a Hyperconnected World: A Group for Building Connection, Awareness & Boundaries

Parenting in the digital age can feel overwhelming. From TikTok trends to endless screen time battles, many parents feel they’re constantly one step behind, and often reacting instead of confidently guiding their children.

At Tapestry Counselling, we see parents doing their best to keep kids safe, support their mental health, and prepare them for a fast-changing world.

But that doesn’t mean it’s easy.
How do you set healthy boundaries without falling into power struggles?
How do you support your child’s growing independence — even when it feels like you’re losing connection?
How can everyday conflicts become opportunities for deeper understanding, instead of division?
And most importantly: how do you move from fear-based parenting to something more grounded, confident, and connected?

What to Expect

This 6-week, in-person group offers practical tools, expert guidance, and a supportive community. It’s designed to be engaging, interactive, and practical, helping you integrate learning with support from professionals and peers.

Considerations for neurodivergent families will be integrated throughout the program, with attention to different learning styles, sensory needs, and communication approaches to ensure that all parents/caregivers feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Together, we’ll explore how to:

  • Set boundaries collaboratively and work through conflicts as opportunities for connection

  • Strengthen your relationship as your child seeks more independence

  • Build confidence navigating today’s online challenges

Understanding Risks and Building Strengths

The digital world brings real risks, from inappropriate content to online bullying and privacy concerns. We help you identify warning signs, while focusing on protective factors like secure attachment, open communication, and emotional regulation that build resilience.

Led by Olivia Herron, Registered Clinical Counsellor, and Devony Baugh, Co-founder of Tapestry Counselling, the program is designed for parents of kids aged 9-13 (including neurodiverse children).

This group welcomes all caregivers, regardless of family structure or how long you've been in your caregiving role. If you're supporting a child and want to better understand their emotional needs (and your own), you belong here.

Meet Olivia

Olivia is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with over a decade of experience in the mental health field, supporting individuals and families through trauma, transitions, and healing. She holds a Master’s degree in Counselling from McGill University and has advanced training in modalities such as Internal Family Systems, Emotion-Focused Therapy, CBT, somatic practices, and trauma-informed care.

With a background in youth work and group facilitation, Olivia has spent over 12 years designing and leading parenting and family support programs. Her approach is holistic, culturally aware, and grounded in the belief that healing is relational. She’s committed to creating safe, affirming spaces where parents and caregivers can reflect on how their own histories and values shape their parenting to build stronger, more connected relationships with their children.

She is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (Level 2) and a registered provider with both the Métis Nation of BC and the SPCA Cruelty Investigatory Team.

Meet Devony

Devony is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and co-founder of Tapestry, a counselling centre originally created to support individuals healing from childhood abuse and trauma. With a Master’s in Counselling Psychology and specialized training in EMDR, CBT, EFT, and IFS, she brings over a decade of experience supporting adults in their recovery from early trauma.

Devony and fellow counsellor Letty launched this parenting course with a bold, proactive vision: to help parents safeguard their children before harm occurs, by equipping them with the tools, awareness, and connection needed to create safe, supportive home environments in today’s digital world.

Though Devony is no longer taking new clients herself, she plays an active role in shaping Tapestry’s clinical programs and ensuring that every group, including this one, reflects the centre’s founding values of dignity, safety, and deep, trauma-informed care.
